Fire

All week the kids have been learning about fire safety at school. Bella came home on Monday asking what our "family fire escape plan" was, so that's what we did for FHE this week.

We have actually avoided talking about fire in our home for the past several years because Sophie developed a fear of fire at a very young age. It might have to do something with the fact that she witnessed a house burn to the ground in our old neighborhood. An angry wife poured gasoline all over the home and set it on fire, so it was a pretty big fire! She seems to be over it now though..., I think.

Here is Harrison with his preschool class sitting on the fire truck that came to visit his preschool. He was pretty excited when he came home and talked a lot about the fire fighter that came to visit him.

Sophie came home from school yesterday with these fire "situation smart cards" that her teacher had her fill out. Check out the answer on the third down on the right. Just in case you can't read it, it says:

"You are babysitting your little brother. He wants some pasta. Your parents told you not to use the stove. Your brother starts crying. What do you do?"

Sophie's response: "Give him candy and put him to bed."

It made me laugh. I can't wait until Sophie is old enough to babysit. She will be great at it, and she is an awesome big sister!!
