What a crazy race! The weather was horrendous -- torrential downpours and lightening strikes. We almost bagged even going when we awoke to the storms at 5:00 a.m. But we pushed forward. And then when we got there, the walk from our car to the starting point was so miserable, we almost turned around and went home. But we persevered.
They had to postpone the start of the race by an hour-and-a-half. A meteorologist was one of the hundreds of runners participating in the race, and she was watching a storm tracker and making announcements as we all huddled in an indoor pavilion near the starting line. When it looked like the worst had passed, they gave the green light to begin. But the lull did not last, and we ended up getting soaked from head to toe and everywhere in between. About half way through the course, a huge band of hard rain (the kind that stings when it hits your skin), wind, thunder, and lightening came upon us and lingered for a good 30 minutes. Literally we were running through two feet deep streams of rain water that were flowing down the beach into the ocean. Our shoes were like ten pound bricks each by the end because they had absorbed so much water during the two hour run.
But we had a blast, and we lived to tell the tale!

Here I am freezing in the pavilion after the race. I had changed shirts and put a coat on in the car after the race, but I was still soaked to the bone. The yummy BBQ lunch and other goodies helped warm me up though!
Stephen and I ran much of the race together and crossed the finish line together, which is what we usually like to do.
