Cooking the Bird

This year for Thanksgiving, I was asked to cook one of the turkeys. It was my first time to do so, and we decided to go all out -- brining, basting, rubbing, and injecting. The results were delicious, or so I was told. By the time the tray of white meat from my 15-lb bird (which was one of two turkeys cooked for the large gathering of Stephen's family) got around to me, only a small piece was left. I don't like dark meat, so I hardly had the chance to enjoy the taste of my hard labor. Ugh.
Here are some pictures of the prep. As you can see, I had some eager helpers! And I wasn't kidding when I said the bird was wiped clean.
We gathered at the McMurray's house again this year with many of Stephen's family members, my mom, and my grandpa. In addition to turkey, I made Holly's sweet potatoes. They were also yummy, as was the other food and desserts brought by the rest of the family. We all ate ourselves sick, then went to the movies, as is tradition, and then watched the Aggies nearly pull off an upset against Texas.
Here are some more pictures from Thanksgiving 2009.

Good times.
