Hurricane Harvey Hits Houston

What a crazy last few weeks . . .  Stephen has been going back and forth between SLC and Houston, trying to wrap things up for his old job and get ready to start his new job.  The kids and I started school and have been staying at a friend's house that is vacant and partially furnished.  And then Harvey came.  Stephen had the kids and I head to Dallas since he was not here to weather the storm with us.  That was a good choice, as the storm ended up being one of the worst rainmaking and flood inducing storms in recorded history on the U.S. mainland.  Stephen flew to Dallas and met us there and then we drove back to Houston when the waters had receded a bit.  Most of our friends and family did not get water in their houses, thankfully, but Shawn (Stephen's brother) and his family did; they got 6-9 inches in their house.  :(  They have flooded four times in different houses over the years!  What terrible luck.  They are pictured at the bottom walking through water to evacuate their home.  School has been cancelled for two weeks while everyone dries out and starts the recovery process.  What a weird way to start the school year.  A few days at school and then a massive storm, evacuation, school cancellation, etc.  We passed the time by doing things in Waco and Dallas, like the zoo, the JFK museum, movies, shopping, going out to eat, etc., but it felt like Groundhogs Day a little bit. Same basic day over and over again in an alternate universe.  We were in a Residence Inn in Richardson, and other evacuees were there too. Crazy.  Emme turned 9 during the storm fallout, so we had to figure out a way to celebrate as best we could.  We managed.  Hearts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones and homes in the storm.
